Your Adventure Awaits

Walk-A-Paca

An Experience of a Lifetime

Your experience begins when you arrive at the top of the driveway at Point of View Alpaca farm and see the breathtaking views surrounding the farm. The scenic beauty of nature is always an amazing and relaxing sight, one that instantly connects you with mother nature and a basic inner peace.  Your first breath of the fresh air confirms that your desire to have a unique and natural experience will definitely be fulfilled. Dave and/or Teri will greet you at the barn, and after introductions your alpacas will be brought to you to begin your experience. The next couple minutes will be spent discussing safety considerations, proper handling techniques, and selecting your alpaca partner as we prepare for the walk.

Then your adventure will begin as we leave the barn together with our small herd of eager alpacas and travel into the upper pasture to increase your confidence with walking your selected alpaca. After a few “selfies” and some educational discussions, those walkers who are willing and able will embark on a suitable trail at Point of View Alpaca farm. During the walk you will see lavender fields and beautiful panoramic views of the pastures, hills, woods and mountains.

The return trip is a little slower due to the slight uphill slope of the pasture, but the surrounding views and physical experience continue connecting you with this unique natural experience. More photos and alpaca facts will occur as we make our way back to the barn. Once back to the barn area we will return your alpaca to the comfort of their herd family.

Your newfound appreciation for “all things alpaca” will carry over to the next part of your experience where you will have the opportunity to see and purchase alpaca products from our Alpaca Farm Store if you so desire. All of the products in the store are made from alpaca fiber which is warm, luxurious and hypo-allergenic.

We know your friends will be jealous when they see your photos, and we would be honored to share our alpaca farm with them as well!

*** Please note that no payment is requested or required until after the walk.

Our mission is to provide a peaceful, loving environment to raise our alpacas and to provide a truly joyful and memorable experience to our guests.

Walk-A-Paca Frequently Asked Questions

How to be Prepared for Your Walk-A-Paca Adventure

Is the walk weather dependent?

Probably… depending on your level of tolerance and the safety and comfort of the alpacas.  We wouldn’t want to walk in the rain because it’s not good for the alpaca fiber.  We are flexible and willing to walk in most conditions.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

It depends on the weather and conditions.  The walk is through pastures, sometimes muddy conditions, woods and a somewhat rocky terrain.  Usually a hiking boot or comfortable tennis shoes are fine.  Sandals, flip flops and open toed shoes are not recommended.

Can children walk the alpacas?

Your safety and the safety of the alpacas is our highest concern, therefore children under the age of 12 are not permitted to walk an alpaca independently. However, children under 12 typically enjoy the experience by holding onto the lead line with an adult who has responsibility for the alpaca.

Are there bugs?

This is a farm operation in a rural setting.  Under certain conditions there may be flies, mosquitos and possibly ticks.  Long sleeves and pants and bug spray is recommended.

How long is the walk?

Our walks average between 40-60 minutes both inside and outside the pasture area.  The distance is approximately 1.5 miles. This includes plenty of time for photos and selfies.

How strenuous is the walk?

Our farm is at the top of a hill so all return walks will have a slight incline. We take frequent stops to ensure that everyone is feeling ok. Please let us know if you have any physical health conditions and follow your physicians advice regarding limits with walking.

What are your fees?

  • $35 per alpaca (minimum of 2 alpacas required)
  • $15 for anybody walking with the group, but without an alpaca
  • No fee for children under 12 years old
  • No payment is due until after the Walk
  • Payment by Credit Card, Cash or Check is acceptable

Are there any risks to this adventure?

Alpacas are considered livestock, and as such there is always the possibility of injury. We will provide ALL visitors walking with alpacas a safety review that discusses safe handling and walking with alpacas. Other risks include the actual walk, and this is determined primarily by your physical condition. It is your responsibility to inform us of any physical conditions/limitations you may have that would increase your risk during the approximate one hour walk. We will be walking on uneven terrain throughout the pasture and trails, and maybe uphill on the return trip. As with any agritourism activity, and even though the risk of harm is extremely low, you are assuming all liability for accidents/injury during the Walk-a-Paca experience.

Can we take pictures during the walk?

Pictures are encouraged and we will stop multiple times to ensure ample opportunities for photography.

Will we learn anything about alpacas while walking?

Along the walk we will provide extensive information about alpaca history, care of alpacas, fiber qualities, health threats, environmental impact, nutrition, business opportunities, farm infrastructure, options for using alpaca manure, quality of clothing and products, national and affiliate state organizations, alpaca research updates, new trends in the industry, etc. Come with your questions and we will do our best to answer them!

Are there alpaca products for sale?

Absolutely! One of the main reasons we selected alpacas as a business was because of the amazing products that are made from their fiber. Alpaca fiber is 8 times warmer than wool, it doesn’t itch and it rivals cashmere. We use some of our alpaca fiber to make products right on our farm, and we also send some of our alpaca fiber to a USA Alpaca Cooperative in New England where they mix our fiber with fiber from alpaca farms all over the USA and then make products for us to sell. You will have an opportunity to visit our Farm Store where you can purchase alpaca products such as hats, socks, gloves, scarfs, boot inserts, ruanas, sweaters, dryer balls, tiny felted alpacas, wreaths, and our new Walk-a-Paca T-shirts.

Is it necessary to call for an appointment?

Yes.  Due to the multiple operations and commitments we have on and off the farm, an appointment ensures the best possible experience. Please call 540-280-0690.

Can I feed alpacas on the walk?

Alpacas have a strict diet that includes grain, but you will have an opportunity to feed them grain from your hand during the walk.
